The Mercy Seat

September 13, 2009

I’ll to his gracious feet approach
whose sceptre mercy give.
Perhaps he may command me “Touch!:
and then the suppliant lives.

I can but perish if I go;
I am resolved to try,
for if I stay away, I know
I must forever die.

But, should I die with mercies sought
when I the king have tried
that were to die, delightful thought!
As sinner never died.

A short poem I read, quoted by Charles Spurgeon in one of his numerous sermons. Oh, what a grorious thing it is to know that no sinner ever died when they had truly sought the mercy of Christ the King! He shall turn none away that come to Him, for none shall come to Him unless the Father calls them. So go, cast yourself at His noble feet and plead for forgiveness. He will not deny you if you come.
