I Train My Enemies Like a Gun

March 9, 2011

Had war a second, breathing chest
perhaps less violence would be had, or
I would see you straight
through the sight of my rifle’s face.
you would smile and nod
I fire, and shake.

Had peace more of thunder’s hands
perhaps it would longer stand
between conflicts that we bring to a head
long lost between
the sheets of the bed where I used to sleep
but now lie awake, ashamed
of most of my glorious deeds.

Had I a bullet wise enough
to destroy the enemy self that I hate
surely, I would not hesitate
to fire full, face to face,
but as it is we are only one
so I kneel beg and struggle
to train my enemy like a gun.

the juxtaposition of these words and thoughts really capture your attention!

Made me think of 2 things . . . Matt 16:19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth whall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. and an application of this I read: the enemy would love to ruin your body because it is the temple of the loving God. When you take heed to this scripture ( i.e. 1. bind the spirit of desire, indulgence or gluttony in the name of Jesus Christ, 2. loose the spirit of self-discipline, will-power in the name of Jesus Christ and 3. thank the Lord and praise Him daily for the overcoming power to resist the devil and thank Him for the Word being made flesh in your BODY AND SOUL as you declare scriptural exhortations e.g. Mk 8:34, Prov 13:25) you are causing your spirit to reign in ascendancy over your soul. The desires of the flesh are in the soul area where the enmity of the flesh works to destroy the temple of the living God. The tools which our Lord gave us for this battle are found in binding and loosing, not deliverance. You are not being possessed when you cannot resist the temptation to give in to a spirit of desire, indulgence or gluttony; you are giving in to carnal desires. (Lk 21:34)
I hear David “for the battle is the Lord’s”, and Ps 18: 31-42
for by you I can run against a troop, and by my God I can leap over a wall. . . . he is a shield for all those who take refuge in Him . . . trains my hands for war, etc.
