Christmas Songs (The Center of the Earth)

January 5, 2009

The earth split open
at a moment most inopportune;
the star-set sky was bright
and the mountains rife with love
as I painted my way through a symphony,
attempting to find my way out.

So I fell in, out, and down
through an earth I thought I’d loved,
only to find within it a flailing heart
that once could never move

And now, bright you are, my hope
here at the center of the world
where once a young child built a castle
only to lose it to the waves

But now another castle forms itself
with the child as its king
to reform all the joyous souls
from their shallow graves.
