Young Transgression

January 16, 2011

Not for I,
but your sake’s name
in a love made monument
and constant in movement
for fear of Him who knows no shade.

Not for I,
nor men of shadow
whose lives have no good thing to remember.
But all given for an according smile
upon paths formed by water
despite the lawful blade
that dams the glory’s river.

Remember not my young transgression
(now covered, now covered)
and lead me, teach me
all your mountain ways
that I may step from peak to peak
to live like you have said.

Not for I, but your name’s sake
and in saving, let me speak
that I might, from generation to generation proclaim
that flow of sovereign grace.

Psalm 25, Psalm 71:17-21
