—————————–

In just a few days we’ll be gathering the Threshingfloor communities together as one for the rest of the year, and I can’t wait to see what Jesus has in store for us as we pack into one house and spend time together each week digging further into the Gospel to be equipped for making disciples of the young adults in the Fargo-Moorhead area. In preparation for the combining of our communities I’ll be spending the next several weeks writing on the Threshingfloor Basics – the key beliefs and practices of our communities – in order to point us all back to the core of what Christ has called us to do here. It’s amazingly easy to lose sight of the most central, important parts of our Christian life when the world around us demands so much attention. My prayer is that, whether you are a part of one of the Threshingfloor communities or not, these posts will remind you what your role as a disciple of Christ is.

Threshingfloor Basics – Part 1 – The Mission

In Revelation 5 all creation cries out, “Worthy is the Lamb who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing.” Earlier in Scripture, Paul declares of Christ, “from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be glory forever.” (Romans 11:36)

We believe that Jesus is the centerpiece of history, worthy of all the glory and honor that we can give him. The worth of Christ knows no bounds, but because of the blinding powers of sin and rebellion, there are tens of thousands of men and women in this world who do not love or glorify Jesus with all their hearts, minds, souls, and strength. The mission of Threshingfloor, and we believe the mission of every believer, is to spread the fame of Jesus by multiplying disciples.

Our calling is to glorify Christ by obeying him and proclaiming his worth throughout the world, beginning with where we live. We spread the fame of Jesus as men and women come to Christ by grace through faith and become disciples.

Why “multiplying disciples”? Jesus was the ultimate example of how to glorify God. He spent the majority of his ministry discipling twelve men to carry on his mission of glorifying the Father. His definitive final command to his followers was to train up more disciples who would obey all that he commanded (Matthew 28). In both word and deed Jesus shows that disciples who make disciples are the ones who glorify God.

Because we believe that God is worthy of all that glory we can give him and that that glory is best given through Christians being disciples who make disciples, everything within Threshingfloor is structured to train up men and women who are disciples of Christ and send them out to disciple others, all for the fame of our savior Jesus.

In my next post I’ll give a brief description of what defines a disciple.
